Academic Standing
At the end of each term, the academic standing of all Public Health students are updated to reflect differing levels of progress. The college uses four statuses: Good Standing, Academic Warning, Academic Progress Notice 1, and Academic Progress Notice 2.
Academic standing is determined by your term grade point average (GPA) for undergraduate students and cummulative grade point average (GPA) for graduate students.
Undergrad Program Academic Standing Status:
- Term based GPA
- Greater than 2.1: Good Standing
- Between 2.0-2.1: Academic Warning
- Student will receive a warning letter that will include faculty advisor and program coordinator
- Less than 2.0: Academic Notice
- Student will be placed on Academic Progress Notice 1
- Student will receive a "notice" letter that will include faculty advisor, program coordinator, and department chair.
- An "Academic Standing Review Form" must be completed for this student
If the student resolves the issue causing Academic Warning or Academic Notice, they are moved to Good Standing.
If a student was previously on Academic Progress Notice 1, and does not resolve the issue, the student will be moved to Academic Progress Notice 2.
- Academic Progress Notice 2:
- The Department and OSEP will review the case and determine further intervention and enrollment status of the student.
Graduate Program Academic Standing Status
- Cummulative GPA
- Greater than 3.1: Good Standing
- Between 3.0-3.1: Academic Warning
- Student will receive a warning letter that will include faculty advisor and program coordinator
- Less than 2.0: Academic Notice
- Student will be placed on Academic Progress Review 1
- Student will receive a "notice" letter that will include faculty advisor, program coordinator, and department chair.
- An "Academic Standing Review Form" must be completed for this student
- Incompletes
- Less than 7 incomplete credits: Good Standing
- Between 7-8 incomplete credits: Academic Warning
- Student will receive a warning letter that will include faculty advisor and program coordinator
- More than 8 Incomplete credits: Academic Notice
- Student will be placed on Academic Progress Review 1
- Student will receive a "notice" letter that will include faculty advisor, program coordinator, and department chair.
- An "Academic Standing Review Form" must be completed for this student
